2023 Historical Society AGM

At the Nanaimo Historical Society’s AGM on Thursday, March 9, a very interested audience heard about the research behind  NHS member Dalys Barney’s recently published booklet Message on a Bottle: Nanaimo’s Soda History,  about single-serving glass soda bottles and Nanaimo manufacturers who were bottling and selling soda as early as the 1870s.  Several attendees brought bottles they had found.  Dalys’ booklets are for sale at the Nanaimo Museum.  You can watch her presentation below.

During the short AGM meeting, directors reported on the past year’s activities of the society, and acclaimed two Directors for the upcoming term; Sue Creba and Wanita Malkiewicz.  Continuing Directors are Susan Garcia, Gordon Miller, Tony Orchard, Darrell Ohs, Ted Lord, and David Hill-Turner as Past President.  Following the meeting, members and guests enjoyed a 70th anniversary cake to mark the founding of the society in 1953.
